Soy and Mirin simmered Beef with rice …Adulterated from Bill Granger’s book Bill’s Holiday
If you feel like red meat but don’t want to slave over a hot roast then this little Japanese inspired recipe is for you. I suggest buying excellent meat so you don’t get a tough as Old Gucci boots dinner.
It’s so easy: poach the Beef in the Mirin sauce and serve with rice. Delicious
You need for 4 fashionista, 2 hungry men and 35 models:
150ml white wine
100ml soy sauce
100ml Mirin
3cm piece ginger, peeled, cut into thin strips
3 tabs of caster sugar ( yes it’s a lot so cut back if you must)
150ml water
2 white onions, thinly sliced
500g fillet steak, very thinly sliced
Steamed Japanese rice
Pickled ginger
Spinach for accessorising
- Slip into Prada Leisure suit.
- Climb out of Gucci stomp-a-licious Stilts and slip into Chanel clogs.
- Pour a big wine glass or ten.
- Find the ginger and chop it up. I always double the quantity because I love fresh ginger.
- Pop on the new Chloe sunglasses and waterproof mascara.
- Don’t cry when you chop up the onion into pieces as small as a Balmain jean stud.
- Slice up the beef into small stir-fry strips (if your butcher hasn’t done it for you).
- This could be a good time to cook the rice.
- Pour another wine and decide to go cold turkey in 2022.
- Get a big saucepan and toss in the wine, soy, Mirin, ginger, sugar (but maybe half the amount of sugar as it’s very sweet) and water. Heat over a medium heat.
- Cook it (Believe it or not!) and stir it so that it dissolves the sugar.
- Bring to the boil and then turn down to simmer for 2-3 minutes.
- Now toss in the onions, and simmer it for another 10 minutes or until onions are translucent and soft as an Hermes bag.
- Throw in the beef and then simmer that for about 1-2 minutes or until beef is just cooked through. Don’t over cook.
- To serve pop the rice into chic bowls and top with the beef and onions and spoon over some of the divine broth.
- Accessorise with spinach leaves or any other greens like rocket.
- Sprinkle on a few pieces of picked ginger if you have it.
- Yum.
