Which: It’s the new restraint in dressing! I don’t usually talk about trends in ‘item du jour’ because I think it’s all about buying items rather than wearing a trend head to toe. But the new minimalism must be mentioned. It’s about pared down chic. It’s clean, uncluttered sans bling. It’s about effortless, unfussy looks for real grown up women. Now you’re talking! Go for black, navy and cream for choc brown. Go for camel. Slide into luxe fabrics like leather, silk and cashmere and anything with a simple and elegant cut.That has got to make you smile!
Why: Because we are over ruffles, bling , embroidery and anything over the top. Because it’s time for a nineties revival in dressing. Because we always loved Helmut Lang. Because it’s time we saw clothes for real woman and daytime dressing instead of short disco dresses that only stick insects can wear. Because It’s all due to Phoebe Philo at Celine who first tapped into the look and now we have a lot of “Philophiles”.
Wear: Keep this in mind when you are shopping for summer: Keep an eye out for understated clean looks. Anything cut close to the body with a streamline shape. It’s the very beginning of the trend and if you invest right now you will get years of wear.
