Cue:
A lot of black and grey and white with hints of red. A lot of great pieces…Best picks include:
- The fabulous navy 50’s taffeta cross-front dress with a full skirt and a chic black net/tulle overlay. This is a dress that is ready to go out. It’s probably allergic to daylight. And hates being seen without heels. It looks so glamorous it will want to sign autographs on the way out. It will work in paparazzi shots because the navy under-skirt will shine through with the flash bulbs. $299
- The Balenciaga diamante and pearl inspired jewellery (designed by Peter Lang) is rather fabulous. There are brooches and necklaces and I think there are bracelets too. But you must be careful. Don’t wear these thinking they are real diamonds. You don’t need a bodyguard. Think of them as fun vintage, and wear with jeans and a white shirt. You must wear this fabulous jewellery with irony. (Irony can get lonely so it loves to get out) $129
- Love the simple white stretchy shirt that has an intelligent sort of asymmetrical Yohji-style collar with press-studs. And snazzy double cuffs. This is great if you are feeling dumb, or drunk, and want to look like you can spell (I must put it on now). $129 ish.
- If you have an addiction to trench coats as I do then sneak out of rehab and get a fix here with the chic stone trench $340. Do I have to tell you how to wear a trench? Don’t think of it as raincoat and you will be fine.
- You will adore the must-have high neck, white rib, cotton knit tank $75. Thank you Cue. This tank does not have a scoop or a wide neck but is cut a little higher so you can wear the Balenciaga necklace on a clean canvas (and not on your skin). It means you can throw it on under a blazer with Harem pants and look very French Vogue. It means you will smile when you get dressed.
- In accessories please buy the belts. They are wide and tough with cool double buckles. This means they will instantly update all daggy dresses and tops that look at you sadly every morning. Wear with floral dresses, with last year’s sad-sack, sack dresses, and with all black. And when the trend is over you could put them on your horse.
Sportsgirl:
It’s very hippy Boho but that can be a good thing – a lot of paisley prints and floral and floaty…Check out
- The long white cotton shirt, semi sheer with a hood. So cool. The sleeves are rolled up and the waist can be cinched with a drawstring with silver toggles. It’s sporty luxe so dress it up with a pencil skirt and heels. $89
- Buy the faded denim straight leg jeans. Very soft and comfy. Like your thighs. Reduced from $100 down to $50.
- You want the gladiator heels with high ankle strap and buckle detail. Bright ‘Chilli’ colour with a wooden heel: $99. Shoes are a great way to add colour and a bit of a chilli tang to your wardrobe. Marinate in Prada later.
- Invest in the mid sized stone tote bag with twin handles and lattice detail panel. $59. A stone bag is chic for summer when a big black bag can look overwhelming. Leather…call it pleather…
Kmart:
Best picks include:
- The print maxi dress in blue, white and greens with a shirred top. You want a maxi dress to wear to the beach. Or to the pool. Not for the street or to be seen in shops. Please don’t wear with heels. You are not Rachel Zoe and we are not in LA. $33
- Buy the African floral print a-line skirt in grey, red, orange. $45. A print skirt is an instant updater and will work all simple tanks. Throw it on with a short crop blazer and a belt. Have I mentioned platforms heels yet this week? May as well start now…
- Check out the Maxi dress with crossover straps in white, grey, orange and green floral print. $41. We love a maxi dress that skims over the hips and muffin thighs. Good for when your legs are still blotchy or in need of liposuction.
- You want the black deep v-neck dress with cap sleeves $45. Very flowy with frills at the bottom and a tie at the back, falling just above the knee. Black? You say more black? Remember the golden rule: cheap colours and cheap clothes = too too cheap. Stick to black in Kmart and Target. Stick to Dries Van Noten and Versace for Colour.
- Love a safari shirt dress in stone or khaki. It has a tie around the waist and pockets on the bust. $35. Yes please. Stone and khaki are not cheap colours. Replace the belt with your own Gucci brown belt and toss on your old YSL heels and voila!
- Need something to throw on over your bikini? You want the blue and white spot/print beach dress, baby doll style. $30
- More Black! Buy the black cotton tunic dress with black jewels around the neckline. Fabulous. And $40. So very Prada. …Miuccia would have a chuckle if she wandered into Kmart. It would almost make an art installation.
- Check out the ‘Tods’ style flat sandals – white with a silver buckle. $25. Is it legal to be so cheap? My eyelashes coast more than these.
- Black t-bar sandals with silver chain detail. $17…yes $17…don’t eat lunch and you have some new shoes. That is called a win-win situation. These are perfect for the beach. Why wreck your Jimmy Choos with sand and salt?
- Love the straw Panama hat with brown striped band. Love a trilby. It won’t keep the sun off but you will look great. $20.

Willow:
Too many things to choose from. Very floaty and soft, but there are some tough stand out pieces too:
- Love the PVC double-breasted trench with waist tie. Dusty pink, red or yellow. $749. Divine. The yellow is a little too DKNY (New York taxi) I would go for red or the dusky very Marni style pink. Yes, I said pink. Pick yourself up from the floor. It’s a dusky pink.
- Adore the short snowflake laser cut pleated skirt in white. $396. We love anything sculptural this season. With cut outs or pleats or a strange twist. Just don’t sit on a melted Magnum in this. Or even sit down.
- Love the stone PVC shirtdress. Very safari, with rolled sleeves and pockets on the front. $395. Don’t worry about wearing this on a hot day or on safari…you will look fabulous, and think of the calories you will lose from the perspiration. I love the idea of the PVC; it makes it a little more modern. Cool. You know what to wear this with. I don’t need to say. Hint: You will be very tall.
- You want the accordion pleated skirt in tangerine. $589. You could play this accordion dress and busk in the street to pay for it. Love orange back with red or even with hot pink shoes. The only place for hot pink (on the floor).
- Buy the black silk tulle dress with white underlay. Black sequins on the front panel and white feathers on the shoulders. Divine. (Pictured) $889. Only problem? You can’t wear a jacket over those feathers.
- Drool over the sexy short, black, lace, corset-dress. It is sexy mama with see-through black lace in the cleavage and on the sides of the waist going round to the back. If you know what I mean. $589. Don’t wear this shopping or on a plane. Unless you own it. The plane not the dress.
- We love a blazer so buy the violet fitted corset style single-breasted jacket/blazer. $889. This will work with everything in your wardrobe. And if it doesn’t, get rid of your wardrobe.
- Why not buy the black waistcoat with very snazzy jagged mirror discs that are covered in tulle scattered on the front. So cool. Wear over T-shirt to keep it simple. $79. The mirrors are there for a reason.
Scanlan & Theodore:
Love it all …where do we start? Best picks are …
- The white silk bomber jacket with slightly cinched waist and stitching over the shoulders. It’s fresh and clean and chic. And no, you won’t look like a nurse. Wear white with denim or with grey. Wear this with a pretty floral skirt. Or with sexy short-shorts and heels. $280
- Adore the paper-cotton Jodhpur pants in khaki. Lovely they feel very silky. $380. Harem pants are here to stay. Grab that blazer, those stomping big heels and shut up.
- Love the brown jacket or is it a cape? Who knows or cares what you want to call it. It’s fabulous. In a heavy woven fabric, it has a fabulous ruched collar. Also in cream and black $600. This is a great trans seasonal piece. Wear it over a knit in winter, or tee in summer. Why waste money on jackets you can only wear for one season?
- Check out the very pretty, soft pink and brown floral printed silk dress. It’s knee length and has V-neck with pussy bow and its own little belt. Remember toughen up the floral dresses or you will look like a fairy. Or worse - frumpy.
- Adore the white embroidered silk angel dress with mirrors. It’s sleeveless, and has silk draping from each shoulder attaching to the back…perfect for checking out your lip gloss without opening your bag….$900
- I am not doing my job unless I include a Little Black Dress: You want the divine lace and sequined short tunic dress with thick lace straps. Yes please. $750. Wear with heels, a clutch and toss a stone Burberry trench over your shoulders
- Oh and buy the black cotton lace trimmed kaftan with a mustard, pink, black and blue embroidered pattern. Gorgeous… wear it to the beach. And feel fabulous. $550
Country Road:
There are dresses galore here as well as a lot of weekend looks. Best buys include:
- The chic black cotton, button-through skirt with cute patch pockets on the front. The buttons are in a simple black fabric and go all the way from waist to hem. How handy. Very YSL. This is a skirt that wants to go everywhere with you. It’s begging to go to the office with a pretty poets blouse but it would be very happy to go out on the weekend with flats and a tee. How many skirts are willing to do that? (Go without heels? Even your legs refuse to do that) $129
- Please buy the stone, short belted silky trench. The fabric has wrinkles. Sorry. One wrinkle too many may push you over the edge. (Just don’t put your glasses on). These wrinkles can be good because you don’t need to iron them as you do your own. This trench needs a home and all it wants is to get into your wardrobe and meet up with your jeans and a white Tee. It also has a secret crush on bright colours. They can get a bit cranky and the stone trench will calm them down. It also wants to meet shorts-shorts and it will love being cinched in with another belt. Perhaps in brown. A belt not it’s own. (Talk about unfaithful). $299
- Buy the black chiffon dress with a square neckline and wide straps. But no, it’s not another black dress. It has cheeky grey chiffon contrast panels along the side. And they seem to make this little black dress mighty happy. You will be too when you wear it because it is waisted and then drapes over all those deep fried Mars Bars you snacked on in winter. This is definitely a dress that is looking for a night out. And a cocktail $259.
- Other dresses that are worth taking your clothes off for include; the multi tiered (tiered but not tired) black silky dress with beige wide straps, the divine blush pink, small pleat one-shoulder dress (this one won’t come home at night) and the grey mini-pleat dress with two straps up the middle. It’s so fabulous there maybe a problem. You might not want to take it off. Ever.
- In Accessories: Buy the red-and-white stripe cotton trilby, the plain trilby, and the red trilby. Then chat up the YSL style platform heels; they are so chic I am sure they are fluent in French. You should snitch the bright red patent wallet that will double as a clutch. A woman must have designed it. It means you don’t have to empty out your wallet to go out. You can just leave the 5 cents, the expired credit card and the old metro ticket in there and stumble out the door.
First Class:
Attic:
Love the clothes in Attic. Apparently they are bringing a lot of the more expensive designers from their Potts Point store soon…
- You want the Marc by Marc Jacobs black chiffon dress with baby pink underlay and thin black belt around the waist (pictured). You don’t need to wear the hat. And just because Marc put flats with it doesn’t mean you can make that look work. The girl is a model and her legs look short. There is no hope for you. Sorry. $995
- Love the Marc by Marc Jacobs black satin puffer coat with cinched-in waist and big buttons down the front and a cute collar. We love a puffer…so right for next winter. So right if you are living in Siberia. So right if you had your $$ in shares and now living in a sculpture by the sea. $880
- Buy the Marc by Marc Jacobs coral A-line skirt with pockets at both hips and exposed zip at the back. Wear this with black and red. An A-line skirt is very flattering and this one will work with boots in winter or with heels in summer. And who ever said pockets on the hips make you look fatter? I say they trick it and the pockets skim over the bits sticking out (they are called hips) and it looks like the pockets are actually the sticky-outy part. $495
- Drool over the Marc by Marc Jacobs silk sleeveless frill blouse with frills on the collar and down the front. In black and pink $540…you know that ruffles, frills and all sorts of frou frou is big news. This means you can keep wearing your boring old black pants from last season and no one will notice.
Escada Sport:
Forget your old vision of Escada, this designer house is looking chic. The Resort Cruise collection is in store and it’s very black, navy, white and red. Best buys are the black. Of course. How I tell anyone to wear white? Red can be worn with instructions. You want:
- The black crop gabardine blouson jacket with ¾ short puff sleeves. Divine. The blouson jacket is one of the season’s hot little shapes. It’s almost a leftover from Sporty Luxe last season. The great thing about these jackets is that they are not too structured or uptight. They don’t need valium. They are easy going (maybe they are on it already?) and look great with a pencil skirt, a denim skirt or with jeans. $1085
- The black oversized leather Doctor’s bag is giving me palpitations. I wonder if there is any medication in there? $1600
- Love the black (or was it navy?) flippy little skirt with buttons down the front. About $500. You want this skirt to flirt with your blazers and your leather bomber jacket. You want this skirt to flirt with your stomp-a-licious heels. You want this skirt to flirt in.
- Everyone needs a divine, understated, classic navy fine knit V-neck cardigan $660. I think this one may have its own little knit belt too. Wear this over a pretty little flirty chiffon skirt a la Christopher Kane. You want the narrowness of the knit to get a fright when it sees the full skirt peeking out underneath trying to escape. That’s the idea anyway. Remember cardigans can be frumpy and they need sexing up. Unless you are Mrs Doubtfire.
- Adore the black rib-knit tank. Who said you should not spend money on basics? This is a piece you will wear again and again. You will wear it every day. You will wear it with everything. Until it is begging for mercy and crying out for a little lie down. And a Bex. $ 425
- Also check out the rack with 60% off…I see brown, khaki and black and colour. The quality is here. Seek and you shall find.
