Master and Commander, The Far side of the World
The great thing about this movie was actually seeing the trailers for ‘Love Actually!’ Ok the truth is, this Peter Weir movie from Patrick O’Brien’s book is just one big boatload of testosterone, which will probably appeal to men and woman for different reasons. The making of the movie is more interesting than the actual film (was the only film allowed into the Galapagos, the accents were all authentic, shot in the Titanic set etc) But it’s a bit soulless because there isn’t really a love story. Well there is but it’s a platonic one between Russell and the same imaginary friend from A beautiful Mind. Conclusion? A bloke’s movie! (And they were far too clean and pristine for sailors at sea too)
