Milan fashion week is on! Watch out for the Alessandra Facchinetti’s debut show for Gucci on Style.com. Paris starts on Monday and here;s the scoop from WWD on what’s hot and new shops to check out:
Painted pink and packed with vintage jewelry, shoes, kimonos, slinky lingerie and brands like Gilles Dufour and Japan’s Bapy, Madame André is run by Chloé Para, a former fashion editor at Numero magazine who’s married to the popular Paris graffiti artist known as André. (André is also behind the offbeat Black Block shop opened last year at the Palais de Tokyo contemporary art museum.)
Ramdane Touhami’s Bureau Politique shop on the Rue des Ciseaux, on the Left Bank, also captures the indie spirit. With a log-cabin facade, it hardly looks like a clothing shop. But inside it’s studiously chic with polished hardwood floors, antique chandeliers and shelves covered in tartan fabric.
On the nearby Rue Bonaparte, Mona Blonde has opened Mona, a 1,500-square-foot shop stocking clothes from Lanvin, Alexander McQueen and Azzedine Alaïa, as well as shoes from Michel Vivien and Pierre Hardy. With no exterior markings, it’s a discreet presence just off Saint-Germain. Former Philippe Stark underling Kristian Gavoille designed it with simple sophistication, including white leather stools and splashes of red on the walls.
Galeries Lafayette’s teen floor — dubbed VO — boasts a streetwear ambiance, has a resident DJ installed in a camper and a “custom studio” where shoppers can customize their purchases and “XXL” fitting rooms for groups of friends to try on clothes together. There is a “denim bar” with about 20 brands; and a “must-have alley” to find the latest hot styles. A cafe has washing machines where customers can sip a smoothie while doing laundry.
Celesta, in the Marais, is a cool store for newborns to age eight. “The 3,000-square-foot emporium also sells toys and is equipped with giant televisions blasting nonstop cartoons to keep the kiddies occupied” .( educational!?)
Guy Savoy, strikes again with Le Chiberta, a chic new bistro.
Situated off Avenue George V, the Marquis de Sers Hotel has received an overhaul to restore 19th-century details, check out the divine panoramic suites. Merci, at http://www.hoteldesers.com
Alaïa will finally unveil his long-awaited 3-room hotel! ( yes 3?!) — named after the address, 5 Rue de Moussy — Meanwhile, Alaïa himself oversaw every detail of the hotel, from the multi-branch Serge Mouille lamps to the placement of furniture by Jean Prouvé and Pierre Paulin. The 1,300-square-foot suites, which rent for 400 euros ($490) a night, were conceived as apartments, with complete kitchens, flat-screen TVs and Internet access. The staff serves continental breakfast, and can arrange for food deliveries from the neighborhood. (The hotel looks gorgeous but I can’t find a website sorry.) This month, he opened a shop at his friend Rei Kawakubo’s Dover Street Market emporium, which mixes Comme des Garçons brands with other designers in a market-like, industrial setting. There, Alaïa sells not only his shapely, sexy clothes, but also select pieces of mid-century furniture and jewelry
“Le Cas du Sac,” an exhibition of more than 400 bags at the Museum of Fashion and Textiles here through Feb. 20. ( ‘Carried Away.”) Co-organized by Hermès, it traces the bag’s evolution in civilizations across the world, from the Dark Ages to modern times
