UK Conde Nast Traveler June:
See the Paris apartment of Francis Ford Coppola and rent it Yes please. (see globetrotter), Head to Valencia ( the next host of The America’s Cup), then check out the lovely town of Girona in Spain for a long weekend if you’re In London. It’s the quiet, chic alternative to Barcelona. Then fly to Puglia for yet another story on the Lord McAlpine’s new guest house (the shots of it are rather fab.) and other gorgeous places to stay. Decide which best lodges you’d like to rest while on safari in South Africa such as The Outpost or (the always mentioned) Jack’s camp. Drool over the divine secret gardens of the Cote D’Azur (or not so secret now) Off to Mexico city? It’s just getting groovier and groovier. But if you want to escape it all head to Vancouver
Island and go huntin’ shootin’ an’ fishin’ ( maybe not the huntin’) at the Wilderness retreat where “ the tourist is easily confused and easily scared. He can be led through trails and spoken to about chardonnay. The wilderness remains in the distance somewhere between the fitness rooms and the hotel” mmm my kind of wilderness…
US Town and Country June:
This is the ‘sharing the wealth’ issue and I like their attitude; it’s all about the power of philanthropy. ‘If the world was a village of 100, then 34 would only earn $1 a day, 70 would be unable to read and 1 would have a college education. (Think about that when you are hyperventilating in the sales.) at least Americans gave $241 billion to charity in 2003. Read about Unicef’s work in Sri Lanka post Tsunami (bless all those smiling kids), the new breed of philanthropy plus celebrity givers. Tea Leoni is lucky to be married to David Duchovny AND a Unicef ambassador plus her paternal grandmother founded the US fund for Unicef. Check out the men and women behind the new Moma in New York, or (after you’ve given your money away) go and stay in the gorgeous village of AnaCapri…divine
US MetroHome July/August
This magazine is now monthly and it’s obviously finding it difficult to keep coming up with cool new places. Interesting they never show anything from Australia. Not like UK Elle Deco is packed with them But I digress. In this issue you can check out one family’s groovy city town house in Manhattan and their country house on Long Island and another rather hip house in Palm Springs but that’s about it. No need to buy this magazine: Donate the money to charity
