Vanity Fair June:
With Angelina Jolie on the cover and a story inside where she says her affair with Brad Pitt is bullshit. ( well the phone sex bit anyway is bullshit). There are cute shots of her with her son Maddox playing around in their suite in the Ritz in Paris. Read Graydon Carter’s editors letter on Iraq war “ it’s fifteen minutes ago, it’s so last year” (according to America) and how Dubya didn’t even mention it in his Inaugural address ( don’t mention the war). Read Dominick Dunne’s column on his trip to London and that everyone in the “upper echelons of London, Paris and New York is talking about the scandalous murder of financier Edouard Stern in Geneva” involving S&M and call girls (“ He came to his end wearing a latex suit”) oh dear. Then read about the late Pope who had a “ mystical belief in the supernatural that bordered on unorthodoxy if not heresy” Mon Dieu! And if that’s not enough, then for some light relief see Tony Curtis nude, holding his puppy dogs in the right place. (he needed 2 dogs…is that a 2 dog night?)
Vogue Entertaining and travel June/July:
Yes, it’s the indulgence issue. See the Mary and Fred looking glamorous at Boomerang, (and find the recipes for the canapés), read about Ruth Reichl and her new book ( see FiFi Report #80), drool over the shots of the top ten Islands Paradises and then the very cool Hotel Faena and Universe that everyone is writing about ( see The FiFi Report from months ago). You want to make the Rhubarb and honey crème mille feuille, the custard with quince jam and pears (from Ladro restaurant in Melbourne) and the Vermouth lemon and fennel risotto…a delicious issue.
Town and Country May:
This is all about “the exotic life” Read about the the cool furniture designers of the world (Marc Newson, Droog Design and Ron Arad amongst them). Be amazed by the huge hilltop retreat in Mustique owned by the Noel family ( for their 5 daughters and kids) and the chic New York apartment of Sherri Donghia. You want to stay at the Marrakech house designed by Jean Louis Raynaud and Kenyon Kramer, and the very elegant restored Ming residence in Beijing ( that’s a first in a home magazine).
