US Harpers Bazaar March:
With Gwen Stefani on the cover, don’t get it mixed up with the Aust Version; Read the fashion advice column by Karl Lagerfeld ( see Quote de la quote) who gives great advice such as ”Never lend to the poor” .Read the how to wear it guide on jackets ,full skirts ,baggy pants and dresses. Laugh reading Simon Doonan’s story on fashion’s new loving feeling “ that backstabbing bitchiness so often associated with the world of style has evaporated as quickly as you could say “ pass the Kabbalah water” , be amused by Dontatella Versace’s ‘why don’t you column’ i.e “why don’t you wear a gold python leather trench over your gym clothes?” Mmm why don’t you? Read Candace Bushnell on the trend of 50’s lady like dressing and how it is a sexist plot “ all those nipped in waists and tight sweaters are demure, demure whispers compliant ’ Checkout the peace movement shoot by Peter Lindbergh, and be horrified by the shoot of Dolce Gabbana as super heros with Naomi Camnpbell as catwoman. A good issue
UK Conde Nast Traveller March :
A great issue! Read about the gourmet driving tour of Bordeaux (see Globetrotter), read about the top cheapo hotels in Rome , read about Bill’s café by Neale Whitaker ( from Vogue entertaining etc). There is a fab story about Montreal ( you want to go there) and read and pray you can one day stay at one of the 20 best Villas on the GreeK Islands.
THe New Yorker
Read John Seabrook’s profile of Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana in the new style issue of The New Yorker, Gabbana is appearing in an Italian dating reality show called “La Sottile Linea Rosa,” or “The Thin Pink Line,” playing a “fairy godfather who drops in from time to time with fashion advice. He can be seen holding a magic wand, sitting in front of dozens of burning candles of different lengths, with leopard-print wallpaper in the background.” (Is it too much to hope for Trio to import this show and slap on a few English subtitles?) The amicable Dolce and Gabbana who are splitsville as a couple now travel together with their new respective boyfriends, “They’re sort of the Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee of fashion,” Also in the issue: a six-page series of Grecian mosaics by Michael Roberts; Daniel Zalewski’s piece on Rem Koolhaas; a meditation on the creation of Hermès’ latest scent, and Nancy Franklin’s look at two other addictive fashion reality shows, “America’s Next Top Model” and “Project Runway.” —WWD
