Cheap but chic of the week!

stripe-top-kmart-2stripe-marc-by-marc-jacobs-top1

I was snooping around K Mart as you do and suddenly I saw it.
A fabulous stripe top. A fabulous black and cream long sleeve stripe.
(The species usually known as a wind cheater or sloppy joe.)
So chic. So right. So just $15.
Whaaat?!
Yes, the Cheap but chic of the week will cost you less than the latest Air Freight US Vogue.

Now don’t just think of it as something you throw on to keep warm : Mais non mes Amies !
( A stripe top forces you to speak french non?).
This is a fashion top meant to be worn with style ! With Aplomb! With a little je ne sais quoi! With Heels! Toss it back with a leather skirt, try it with a shirt under it, with pink trousers (see the GAP runway shot below) or just simply throw it back with white jeans a la marc by marc Jacobs. You can tuck it in or wear it hanging loose. My advice is to buy a smaller size so the fit is neat and chic.
You can also find other versions from Theory £95 from Net  A Porter, Marc by Marc Jacobs $187 at Shop bop above..and Bardot for $59.

Run, I say run, like a maniac in Manolos and you may still find one.

Home Sweet Home: Sumptuous and Bohemian Interiors.. by Oberto Gili , Susanna Salk

If you love looking at divine houses owned by stylish, Boho, international cosmopolitans then this book is for you: Glorious, sumptous photos on beautiful paper!

“A visual feast on ‘the extravagance of the bohemian’, the homes in this collection are a testament to personal style. Since the 1970s, Oberto Gili has been one of the most prolific photographers in the world of editorial photography, his lush images of fashion and interiors gracing the pages of House & Garden, Town & Country, and Vogue.
The selection includes numerous homes of French and Italian nobility, lords of the European and American creative class, and the photographer’s own remarkable Piedmont farmhouse. There are more than 40 homes–from New York penthouses and artist lofts to seventeenth-century Italian villas and country homes in Morocco-. Sprinkled throughout the book are 10 short texts by selected homeowners (Isabella Rossellini, Mary Randolph Carter, Muriel Brandolini, Marella Caracciolo, Paul Fortune, and Beatrice Monti, among others) describing a personal history of the individual spaces.”  LOVE!

Now you can shop bobbi brown with your feet up! The online store is offically open!

beauty-bobbibrown-online
You are stuck in the office all week.
You never get to the shops.
Your children drive you nuts on the weekend.
Then you run out of mascara. And foundation. And energy.
Quelle Horreur!
Don’t despair. When the kids go to bed, pour another huge glass of wine and then get online.  Head toute suite to Bobbibrown.com.au.  The online store is now officially open. (HINT: Best to do this before you finish the bottle and start snoring cross eyed).
My favorites? I swear by the Pot Rouge For Lips and Cheeks ( it lasts forever and stays on all day: It’s a scientific FiFi fact ), the Luminous moisterising foundation ( dewy skin is yours!) and the Everything Mascara ( never clumps and you get volume, baby ,volume) . The best news is that you get free Standard Shipping and a Mini Mascara with Any Purchase ( For a limited time only!).

This week’s recipe: Healthy chocolate brownies

healthy-chocolate-brownies

Whip up these delicious, gooey brownies on Mother’s Day…and make everyone smile. Adulterated from Bill Granger at smh.

You need for 16 fashionista, 32 models or for one big mama :

60g ( 1/2 cup) cocoa powder
¾ cup plain flour
1 tsp baking powder
50g (1/³ cup) firmly packed brown sugar
110g (²/³ cup) chopped dried dates
90g unsalted butter, melted
80ml (1/³ cup) low-fat milk
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract

  • Slip into your Celine loose wide pants and Alexander Wang sweat top.
  • Climb out of Givenchy ankle boots and into Burberry flats.
  • I insist a little drink while you cook this: I suggest a glass of champers is lovely with chocolate.
  • Preheat oven to 160C.
  • lightly moisterise and then line the base of a 20cm square baking tin.
  • chop the dates as small as the Bulgari ring.
  • Sift the cocoa powder, flour and baking powder together into a chic, large mixing bowl.
  • Add the brown sugar and dates and stir to combine.
  • In another bowl whisk together the butter, milk, eggs and vanilla.
  • Gulp down another glass of champers.
  • Now add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  • Taste to check this is delicious.
  • Pour the mixture into the baking tray.
  • Lick the bowl: No calories.  Summer on the beach at St Tropez is months away.
  • Bake for 20 minutes or until set. Don’t overcook you want as gooey as a romantic comedy.
  • Let cool a little before cutting into squares the size of an Hermes cuff.
  • Accessorise with icing sugar or smoothe on lashings of nutella as icing!
  • So delicious! So healthy ( cough, cough).
