French Women Don’t Get Fat Cookbook…by Mireille Guiliano

A fabulous idea for Mother’s Day…
‘With French Women Don’t Get Fat, Mireille Guiliano wrote the ultimate non-diet book on how to enjoy food and stay slim, sparking a worldwide publishing phenomenon. Now, in her first-ever cookbook, she provides her millions of readers with the recipes that are the cornerstone of her philosophy-mouthwatering, simply prepared dishes that favor fresh, seasonal ingredients and yield high satisfaction.
Organized around Mireille’s three favorite pastimes-breakfast, lunch, and dinner-these recipes emphasize pure flavors, balanced ingredients, and easy cooking methods. Eating pleasurably is just as important as eating healthfully, and Mireille does not neglect dessert and chocolate (essential components of any French woman’s diet) and incorporates advice on entertaining, menu planning, and wine selection. And once again, Mireille offers tips and tricks to reduce one’s waistline (including a secret family recipe from Mireille’s beloved Tante Berthe for a delicious breakfast that melts away pounds effortlessly).
Filled with stories from Mireille’s childhood in France, her life in Paris, Provence, and New York, and her extensive travels and meals for business and enjoyment, The French Women Don’t Get Fat Cookbook is a beautiful, practical lifestyle guide to living well, eating wonderfully, and getting the most out of life with the least amount of stress.’ Mais oui!

Jamie Does…by Jamie Oliver
A perfect Mother’s day present! ‘This cookbook will celebrate the vibrant  food of six very different countries. Each chapter will focus on a different city or region: Marrakech, Athens, Venice, Andalucia, Stockholm and the Ardeche region of France. The food in each chapter will be a mixture of classic dishes and new recipes inspired by the things Jamie learns on his travels. Beautiful reportage photography of the faces, places and ingredients will accompany each chapter.
Jamie says: ‘The food I’ve embraced on each trip is a mixture of what you could call the clichéd star dishes - the tagines of Morocco, the flamboyant paella of Spain and the zingy fresh flavours of a classic Greek salad - and the recipes that I’ve been inspired to make after walking through the markets and soaking up the vibes of each place. What you’ll find in this book is fun, optimistic, escapist food you can actually cook and enjoy in your own home.’ Love it !

It’s a Fashion Week wrap up!

The feet are numb from the stomping around in Balenciaga platforms. The fingers are blistered from too much twittering. The eyes are blinking from pesky paparazzi. The cheeks are sore from too much air kissing.  The arms are aching from elbowing out fashionista for the (divine) chicken sandwiches at the Rosemount Bar. Welcome to FiFi’s fashion Week!

I have been guest blogging for P ! What fun! So here’s an abbreviated version.. You can read the entire ( hilarious- if I say so myself) 5 days of FiFi’s Fashionista Fashion week here at

Plus if you want to know everything about the RAFW Makeup Trends- and you do - I insist you zoom over tout suite to for the inside scoop on all things beauty.

  • Loved the Lisa Ho show: It opened with hot model du jour Samantha Harris ( on the cover of ) and then included a lot of our favourite faces including Alyssa Sutherland. (Was that Balenciaga muse Stephanie Carta?) A veritable model fest! I adored the clean, white shirts shown back with the gorgeous, long print maxi skirts for day. (Hint: watch out for the long skirt for day: it’s a huge trend looming on the horizon). So modern. So chic. Thank you Lisa. I clapped my hands for the clean, simple minimal looks with the prettiest blush this side of nude. I wanted the lovely drape dresses and divinely chic jackets and short skirts (so can someone please tell why did I guzzle down all those patisseries at playtime then?). Tidbit: Apparently all the shoes for the Lisa Ho show were held up by the Icelandic volcano. (How ironic: her show was inspired by melting ice in Iceland!) shots

  • I think double denim moment is upon us for real. I thought it was just a bad rumour. I know, I am scared too. First seen at Chloe it has now surfaced at Bassike (and also seen in the FROW): Cute side pocket, high waist jeans and a denim jacket. Worn together. But you know what? I think it looks cool. Dolly Parton will be pleased. Adored the khaki cotton oversized, zip up, mini dress with a huge funnel collar at Bassike. Was it a dress or just a top? Who knows, who cares? It was loose roomy and casual and tres cool. (and perfect for hiding the double chins and smuggling shoes unnoticed into the house).
  • Loving white shirts done up to the neck with sleeves rolled up. Seen more often in the FROW and on the fashion pack worn with leather skirts, peg legs pants and shorts. (Damn it’s time to bring out the iron and give up eating melting magnums.)
  • fashion-bassike3fashion-bassike-1-denimfashion-bassike-2
  • The styling at Kate Sylvester was quirky, original and therefore fabulous. We are talking about curious, little sock suspenders. Is that what they are called? Let me describe them: Short socks that are held up with an elastic clip-on suspender that sits just above the socks. Mmmm. They probably like that sort of thing in New Zealand. Other quirky styling I loved: the cute little flowers pins, the hidden bras peeking out, the flat loafers with dresses and the cute twisted belts cinched in over everything. Adored the leather tops, bustiers and jacket.

  • If you want glamour and frocks and red carpet gowns there is only one place to go: Alex -sunglasses-glued-to-his-bald- head Perry. This man knows his look and sticks to it. Sure fashion may come and go but Alex does what he knows best. There were even white roses on all the seats. (Ouch those thorns hurt.) On the runway we saw sequins, zebra print, pale pretty nudes and feathers. There was also the peculiar look of a jacket worn with just undies (Which Miu Miu started years ago) Please explain.
  • What do I love about Zimmermann? That they have a certain style and look and they stick to it. (None of this swapping from tough chic to BoHo from one season to another). I loved the amazing digital print dresses, draped tops, the swimwear and floppy palazzo pants in graphic black and white. And especially loved print dresses with big cut outs ( holes) that are like having your own airconditioning.

  • Loving the flares at Ellery. Yes, that’s right Flares are back. You didn’t know they went away? Bless. I think you’d better keep reading you need a little help. Also loved the flirty, ruffle short skirts and mad feathers in yellow (Or was Big Bird?) and grey. There were amazing beaded ankle boots. Loved the silver and gold textured shimmery dresses under belted blazers. Note: the twisted belt was here too. First seen at Marc Jacobs/ Prada etc it seems to be a mini trend at RAFW.
  • Leather continues to romp down the runways. I know you are trying to frown (Obviously the botox is working) and you are wondering about leather in summer. But don’t fret. At Flannel you got the feeling you could do it: We are talking lovely leather belted vests, Celine inspired leather Tees and charming A-line leather skirts (everyone has loved that show). Note: There are leather bomber jackets everywhere right now but come summer look for new shapes in leather when you go shopping. Then buy a mini hand held fan and toss it in your Birkin.
  • So are you over wearing tough chick black? Times to mind your manners and start wearing Jayson Brunsdon. Loving his oh-so-pretty 50’s skirts, stripe cotton shifts, white dresses and his tied front white shirts. His collection was modern with a dash of retro in an Aussie-terry toweling kind of way. It was sweet and feminine. It was so clean, crisp and lady-like it made you want to sip tea and nibble on cupcakes. Please put down that MarsBar. Now.

  • At Anna and Boy it was also very Pool Party Retro. I loved the soundtrack: does that say much about the clothes? Well, it is primarily a swimwear label and when I look at Bikinis I feel left out. But I loved the cute dark blue print jumpsuits and the crop Top Tees. Yes, dear FiFi/Primped readers, the crop top is back. Send me a postcard and have a good time wearing them.
  • Romance Was Born: I have one word to say to you. OMG. Actually that’s 3. What a fabulously, mad, creative, over the top show. The concept (And it was A CONCEPT) was Renaissance does Dinosaurs. Or was it the other way round? There were dresses in the shape of Volcanoes (Try going security wearing that at the Airport!) and huge pompadour wigs. There were incredible wacky prints, velvets, crazy capes, ruffles, and futuristic dresses. Were there shades of Alexander McQueen? Perhaps but it was a show and that’s we want entertainment. I’m thinking this was Entertainment with a capital E. If you know what I mean.

  • I was looking forward to seeing longer skirts (for day) this week but it looks like anyone with long, skinny legs will still be able to keep showing them off for another season. At Dion Lee the dresses were very short and body con. (Which can be a problem for the rest of us: God knows where you can buy long skinny legs these days). This week’s trends were all here: Digital prints. Tick. Soft, pretty, nude colours. Tick. Draping and knotting. Tick. A bit of white shirt. Tick. Cut outs under the arm for your air personal conditioning. Tick. Balenciaga inspired. Tick.
  • Tidbit Apparently Napoleon Perdis has an absolutely huge Birkin bag. And you know what they say about the size of a Man’s Handbag…. (Thank you )

Chocolate Pear Pudding…..adulterated from
it’s Mother’s Day: Whip up this divine dessert /cake and she will think you have slaved over a hot stove for hours. Easy as opening a can of pears. Organic of course.

You need for 6 family members or one big fat Mama!

2 x 415g cans pear halves in juice
125g plain flour
25g cocoa powder
125g caster sugar
150g soft butter, plus extra for greasing
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Serve with Nutella or chocolate sauce

  • Pull on your old favourite grey Hermes leisure suit.
  • Open a wine. I am sure it’s got to be 6 o’clock somewhere in the world. ( old joke but a goodie)
  • Preheat the oven to 200°C
  • Whip out the butter and moisterise a 22cm square ovenproof dish.
  • Apply your own Crème De la Mer face mask.
  • Lock the doors
  • Open the cans and drain the pears.
  • Chop them up in half so you have quarters. You do the maths.
  • Toss in the dish and arrange them so they look chic and relaxed.
  • Get out all the remaining ingredients and measure out.
  • Now throw all those ingredients in a food whizzer and blitz until you have a batter.
  • Nigella would say that it should have with “a soft dropping consistency”. A bit like my bottom.
  • Now pour the brown batter over the pears and spread it out so that it’s as smooth as you can sloppily do.
  • Now pop in the oven for about 30 minutes.
  • You should keep an eye on it. You will smell it when it is nearly ready.
  • You want to let stand out of the oven for 5 or 10 minutes to cool and then cut into slabs.
  • Serve with chocolate sauce or slather with Nutella…OMG.
  • Then give your mum a big chocolate kiss.
