Give up searching. Right now. I have found it. The one item you need to change your wardrobe. It’s a hood. A detachable hood. In sexy gold sequins. It’s simple. Tie it around your collar and it sits at the back of your jacket and hangs there looking very groovy. It will dramatically change all your old daggy outfits you have lurking in your wardrobe. It will bring joy to your life. And to the people standing behind you. Throw it over everything from a basic little bomber jacket to a trench or a chic blazer. No need to go and buy a whole new jacket. Just buy the hood. How clever. How chic but cheap. But don’t wear it on you head. Unless you want to rob a bank.

A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini (Author)
’It’s difficult to imagine a harder first act to follow than The Kite Runner: a debut novel by an unknown writer about a country many readers knew little about that has gone on to have over four million copies in print worldwide. But when preview copies of Khaled Hosseini’s second novel, A Thousand Splendid Suns, started circulating at Amazon.com, readers reacted with a unanimous enthusiasm that few of us could remember seeing before. As special as The Kite Runner was, those readers said, A Thousand Splendid Suns is more so. Hosseini’s compassionate storytelling and his sense of personal and national tragedy bring depth to this tale of two women over three decades of anti-Soviet jihad, civil war and Taliban tyranny in Afganistan. His tale is a powerful, and harrowing, but also a lyrical evocation of the lives and enduring hopes of its resilient characters..

The Christmas List
David Bailey: NY JS DB 62 (Hardcover) by David Bailey(Photographer)
In January 1962, still in his early twenties, photographer David Bailey headed to the U.S for his first foreign trip for Vogue, accompanied by his model girlfriend, Jean Shrimpton. The impact of the couple’s early collaborations set new standards –though at the time, his aesthetic was so controversial that, as a representative of the magazine, Vogue asked him not to wear his leather jacket in the St Regis Hotel. (Of course he ignored the advice.) The groundbreaking series that Bailey produced with his recently acquired 35mm camera was special. Newly freed from the confines of the studio, he shot rapidly on the streets and recorded the pioneer moment just before meeting Andy Warhol, and a year before his friends the Rolling Stones launched their own transatlantic invasion. Groovy baby!

AG Arthur Gallan
This is one of my favourite Australian designers after Scanlan & Theodore and Josh Goot: It can be a bit Prada at times but that can be a good thing. In fact a fabulous thing. He picks up the trend at the beginning of the trajectory rather than when the look is climaxing ( see Cue!). Yes, there are worst people to copy (Escada anyone?) Best buys here are as reported: the black (or Prince of Wales) drape strapless dress a la Prada. It comes with its own snazzy leather belt that you twist and wrap and tie around the waist $398. The poncho wool top $159 is a wardrobe must have for trans seasonal weather: it is almost a cape but in a soft fine knit and you can wear it over a white T or a poloneck knit if it ever gets cold. Or you can wear it over a sequin T and belt it in and let it slip sexily off the shoulder. It comes in a few colours in brown, camel, and black. Buy the red and brown moc croc thin belt to razz up your boring wardrobe. The sweater dress is cool with a smattering of clear sequins $249 and the black and burgundy print skirt is chic $249.If you need a black pencil skirt go here; it has an inverted split or pleat the back. Please avoid all skirts with a tacky long back splits. Not chic. $259. Love gold metal camisole , very prada with straps in grosgrain $229.
Country Road:
Best buys here are; the grey knit deep V sweater dress; the grey wool pants with a black grosgrain belt; the red and cream print cami top very Marni $89 and the fabulous herringbone tweed crop jackets with big full sleeves a la Burberry $249 . But don’t worry about wearing this when it’s cold layer it over a long sleeve polo neck sweater. True. That’s the look. It’s practical and chic. Whatever will fashion think of next? The accessories here are fantastic. The Chloe esque grey bags are fabulous $199; the short suede black boots $199 gorgeous; the belts in cream are a must buy and the wooden necklaces are just right. The big chunky scarves are so on the money. So very on trend and they look quality darling. Which is most important don’t you think?

Olive Oil and Sauterne Cake …..adapted from Gourmet Traveller
Need to whip up a cake for Mothers day but have a nearly empty cupboard and not much time? Try this cake it’s sensational….
You need:
2 eggs
1/2 cup caster sugar
½ cup dessert wine or any sweet wine
1/3 cup milk
2 Teasp of chopped preserved lemon or otherwise zest two lemons
¾ cup Extra Virgin Olive Oil
1 ½ cup plain flour, sifted
21/2 teasp baking powder
Serve with poached pears or figs, a dusting of icing sugar or drizzled with a syrup….
• Find a loaf tin in the bottom drawer
• Moisterise it with lashings of olive oil and butter.
• Pre heat oven to 180°C.
• Cut up the preserved lemon or zest the fresh ones. I prefer the preserved lemon it’s so tangy.
• Grab a mixing bowl and toss in eggs and sugar
• Beat the eggs with the sugar until pale and creamy. Think crème de la mer.
• Pour in olive oil, milk, and preserved lemon
• Open the wine.
• Try not to pour a glass of wine so early in the morning.
• I said Try.
• Pour the wine in the egg mix. Not your glass. If you don’t have dessert wine use whatever you have in the fridge.
• Fold the sifted flour with the baking powder gently through the mix . Think of folding your Prada dress. You will be careful.
• Pour the batter into the cake tin and throw in the oven.
• Put the wine back in the fridge. Now.
• Bake for 20 minutes.
• Then reduce oven temperature to 160°C and bake for a further 20 mins. • It should be a pretty moist cake.
• Allow to cool in the oven for about 10 minutes.
• Then serve with lashings of cream and caramelized pears or figs.
• Mother will love you. Today.Hic!
