A Tribute to Yves Saint Laurent…

  • “Fashions fade, style is eternal.”
  • “Over the years I have learned that what is important in a dress is the woman who is wearing it.”
  • " We must never confuse elegance with snobbery.”
  • “Dressing is a way of life.”
  • “It pains me physically to see a woman victimized, rendered pathetic, by fashion.”
  • “Isn’t elegance forgetting what one is wearing?”
  • “A good model can advance fashion by ten years.”
  • “I have always believed that fashion was not only to make women more beautiful, but also to reassure them, give them confidence,”“
  • “I love bows, … And I feel some couture pots coming on.”
  • “I have often said that I wish I had invented blue jeans: the most spectacular, the most practical, the most relaxed and nonchalant. They have expression, modesty, sex appeal, simplicity - all I hope for in my clothes.”
  • "I participated in the transformation of my era. I did it with clothes, which is surely less important than music, architecture, painting … but whatever it’s worth I did it."
  • "I always believed that style was more important than fashion. They are rare, those who imposed their style while fashion makers are so numerous."
  • "To be beautiful, all a woman needs is a black pullover and a black skirt and to be arm in arm with a man she loves."
Karl Lagerfeld’s Grand Theft Auto Avatar Game Boy

‘The supposed point of the video game series Grand Theft Auto is to navigate a crime-ridden city, bumping off outlaws. For many, however, half the fun comes from just driving around a virtual landscape listening to one of the built-in radio stations. When playing the new fourth installment, fashion-obsessed gamers should have no doubt about which call letters to tune in: Karl Lagerfeld will be serving as DJ on K109 the Studio. The Kaiser picked his favorite songs and recorded some rapid-fire commentary to be played between tracks.’ Reports W.

The Christmas List
Jeff Koons …. by Ingrid Sischy Eckhard Schneider.
‘An in-depth study of Koons’s entire oeuvre to date. Limited to 1,500 numbered copies, each signed by Jeff Koons. From kinky to kitsch to conceptual, Jeff Koons’s art is anything but conformist. Since he stirred up the art world establishment in the 1980’s with his unapologetic basketball sculptures and stainless steel toy blow-ups, Koons has been known as somewhat of a bad boy—a reputation he confirmed in the early 90s via works depicting him having sex with then-wife Cicciolina, the Italian porn star-cum-politician. Koons’s exploitation of the banal, in the aggrandizement and/or embodiment of kitsch and pop imagery, has become his trademark; detractors may delight in their naysaying, but Koons’s work commands millions at auction and his position at the forefront of contemporary art is indisputable.’ Arty.

Country Road, Morrissey, Saba, French Connection, Hugo Boss…
Sportsgirl:
•Congratulations! Sportsgirl has Won “The best item I have seen all week award” (apart from Prada). The winning item? The extremely high platform black leather lace-up booties $139 (pictured left). You have to look twice to check they are not Balenciaga . It’s LOVE. They are part of a new range here called ‘Minty meets Munt’. Who is Minty? More to the point who is Munt? They are a small label .
•Also part of the MMM range is a very 20’s cocoon shaped jacquard coat with one black button at the top neck. $119. Chic.
•Love the beaded skinny scarves in black or silver or gold. Any colour is good. The size of a men’s tie… very Sienna and Olsen. $39

SES:
This little gem is the ultimate Cheap but sometimes Chic Shop. You just need an eye to find the pieces. Which is why you have The FiFi Report. Check out…
• The Black puffa vest with a hood. The fabric seems luxurious but the price is not $24. How can this be? Is it legal? Add a belt to the waist and this could be Burberry. At $2000 less. Bless.
• The chicest of chic dresses is here: a woven poly/cotton black round neck knee length dress with a self belt. The feature is an overturned 1960’s collar in the same black fabric. $34.

• The amazing Balenciaga inspired black fleecy jodhpur pants with zips at the waist and tight at the bottom leg with zips in ankles. Look Luxe whilst lounging. $35. You could wear jodhpurs riding or you could wear jodhpurs and trot around (not on a horse).
• The wet look spandex black bomber jacket….a great cut. Wear this with jeans or with a pencil skirt and killer heels. Not sure if wet look means waterproof. It may melt in the rain. $75.
• Love the long fleecy oversized sweater dress. It has a deep v-neck so instead of flashing that cleavage it would be idea to wear a bodysuit underneath. Please don’t frown: this dress is not lumpy or bumpy. You will not look like a Michelin man. Wear with black wool hosiery. (see Kmart below).
• A Black pretty blouse with white stars and waist tie. $40. Wear it with black skinny jeans and red lipstick. Think the Olsen twins in Chanel.

Steamed chicken with hot and sour dressing…

Steamed chicken with hot and sour dressing…Adulterated from
This is one of life’s great joys. And one of the quickest recipes known to Mankind. Poach/steam chicken. Chop vegetables. Pour hot oil over the vegetables. Eat. Smile.

Tip: swap chicken for white fish if you need to…

You need for 2 Fashionistas, 40 models or 1 hungry Metrosexual truck driver.
2 chicken fillets
2 tbsp finely chopped coriander leaves and stems
5cm piece ginger, cut into thin strips
2 tbsp trimmed and finely sliced spring
onions
2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
1 to 2 small red chilli, finely sliced
2 tbsp light soy sauce or sweet soy
1 tbsp brown rice vinegar or plain rice vinegar
1 tsp brown sugar
1 tsp sesame oil
2 tbsp peanut oil
One Lime leaf to poach chicken
Serve with Rice

• Remove mink coat.
• Remove diamonds.
• Remove hairpiece, false eye lashes, nails and YSL heels.
• Pull on Missoni jumpsuit and the Mink Ugg boots.
• Pour a wine …or two.
• Make the dressing first.
• Find a saucepan to throw all the vegetables in. This way you can pour the hot oil into something that can take the heat.
• Chop the ginger into thin little sticks. Think Olsen twins. And a bit thinner. It’s not going to be cooked so you don’t want big fat lumps in there.
• Chop up the garlic, chilli and coriander. Ditto in the size department.
• Chop up spring onions into model size rather than Olsen size.
• Pour the sesame oil, the soy sauce, the rice vinegar and the brown sugar in with vegetables and give it a good mix.
• Now is a good time to make some boiled rice. You know how to do that. If you don’t now is a good time to start the diet.
• Now is also a good time to poach the chicken.
• So heat up a kaffir lime leaf in some water. Bring to boil.
• Toss in chicken breasts whole and gently poach til cooked. About 10 to 15 mins. Stab it to see if it’s cooked.
• Let the little bugger rest while you…
• Pour some more wine.
• Grab a saucepan and heat the peanut oil until the surface seems to shimmer like the Revlon Skin Lights. If you are not sure when the oil is hot enough just throw in a coriander leaf and when it bubbles and crackles it’s hot enough. Think a peel gone wrong. Terribly wrong.
• Carefully - so you don’t splash the Missoni - pour the very hot oil over the vegetables. This is not a good time to think about oil and calories.
• Give it a stir and let it have a rest. Alone. You don’t want to eat the oil when it’s too hot or you will burn your tongue. Bless.
• Now grab the chicken breasts and cut up into chic slices on the diagonal a la a celebrity chef.
• Now spoon the divine dressing over the chicken …
• Accessorise with a sprinkle of coriander leaves and the rice.
• It should be served warm or even at room temperature.
• Heaven.
