A Parka

The important thing about being a fashion victim is that you are willing to suffer for your art. Wedges killing your feet force you to inject botox in your toes? Easy. Eating nothing but your words for days to squeeze into a dress: a Cinch. Washing the dishes every day because you are wearing your dishwasher? (A Prada dress) it’s a brainer! Carrying an oversized heavy Jimmy choo bag that’s bigger than your car? Of course! Now this week it’s time to wear a parka. Who cares if it’s hot outside? Who cares if it never rains? Who cares if it was first seen on the Prada runway a year ago?  You must have one. You need one. You can’t go through winter without one. Head to Witchery for a cute, short, black or cream quilted parkas with a faux fur trim hood $149; or a ¾ grey silky anorak with grey marle lining $129. Try French Connection for a groovy black parka with quilting lining and a belt with a fur trim hood $169. Or Country Road for the best black hood parka with cool ¾ sleeves and an elastic waist $199. Fabulous. Veronika Maine has a great parka without a hood in a khaki and cute turn up sleeves about $199 and Max and Co has a chic black quilted parka with a fur trim hood about $660. Or try Max Mara for divine fur trim parkas about $1500. Note for any dags reading this who just don’t have a clue how to wear it. Bless. First rule of thumb. Keep up the botox and climb back into the heels. You never wear a parka with flats unless you really know what you are doing. Throw on a pencil skirt, or skinny pants, even shorts. Toss on a simple T. Belt in the parka. Grab your Jimmy Choo car and you are off. Where to? Back to the Mothership Prada to pay repects ..

Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Natural Bronze Body Lotion Tanning Moisturizer

It’s a miracle. My legs finally have a tan. Even if I sunbake they never seem to go brown. Which is weird. When I lie down they are definitely closer to the sun than the rest of my body. Perhaps they are more similar to the Himalayas than I thought. At least they are no longer snow covered white. It’s because I have been using the new Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Natural Bronze Body Lotion Tanning Moisturizer. Just apply it every day as you would a moisturizer before you race out shopping. Watch as your legs turn a delicious brown and slowly tone in with the rest of your body. It also washes off your hands easily. Plus it smells like chocolate. Heaven. Now how to solve the problem of the crevasses on the thighs…

"It’s Milan fashion week and yet again Prada has shown an amazing and influential collection" Style .com writes “ Having to précis Prada is one of the toughest mind games in the business. All critics know is that they might as well leave their usual compasses at the door: Whatever Mrs. P is onto next is guaranteed to throw ready-made vocabulary and easy references into disarray. As the anxious hordes pressed backstage for an intellectual coda from the oracle, she gave them a friendly Italian laugh. "Eh! The only thing I could think of was to work on color and materials," she shrugged. "Something simple but strange. Simple but strange: She said it.
“Animal rights protesters made an appearance at the Prada show, where one stormed the runway just as the models were doing their grand finale parade around the room. The fellow dashed onto the stage with a tiny banner. He was actually well dressed for a protester, most of whom tend to show up in scruffy jeans or something like that. He appeared to be wearing a suit. Perhaps he had a wry sense of humor and wore Prada”…from washingtonpast.com

For those FiFI readers who are in rehab and not up with latest news: Britney Spears was filmed shaving her head before going to a tattoo parlour, where she reportedly had a tattoo of a pair of lips put on to her wrist.. (Because no one will kiss her.. ?)
The news is Britney got so K-Fed-up with her soon-to-be ex-husband that she shaved her head – and then headed to rehab because K Fed threatened Britney that he was going to have people test her hair to find out exactly what she’s been up to…( that explains the Brazilian too)
Britney’s rehab was called Crossroads. Britney’s first movie was called Crossroads.
"OOPS! SHE DID IT A-FREAKIN’-GAIN?!? I am absolutely speechless … I simply have no words right now … Britney once again checked out of rehab after less than 24 hours being checked into rehab!" says pinkisthenewblog
Anyone after Britney’s hair, er, um extensions? http://buybritneyshair.com/
"Jo Lo was brought to the verge of tears after she received boos from an audience who watched her new movie Border town.I almost feel bad for her, except maybe this’ll stop her from making any more movies. I mean Anaconda was a masterpiece, but what are the odds she’ll ever recreate that magic?" Reports the Superficial

Made for Each Other: Fashion and the Academy Awards (Hardcover) by Bronwyn Cosgrave
In this entertaining look at the history of Academy Award fashion, Cosgrove, who covered the Oscars for British Vogue and the BBC, discusses the relationship between star designers and actresses—Givenchy and Audrey Hepburn, Edith Head and Grace Kelly,  Scaasi and Streisand, Halston and Liza, Bob Mackie and Cher. Cosgrave could have simply served up a deep dish of anecdotes, gossip and tales of rivalry, but she has gone several steps further to deliver a carefully researched and footnoted book that belongs in every Hollywood historian’s library and is sure to be consulted for a long time to come.Fabulous.

Music and Lyrics ..Directed by someone who was asleep. Or in a coma. Or on drugs. Probably all 3.
Genre: Rom Com
Who: Drew Barrymore, Hugh Grant, Campbell Scott
The Plot: Old rock star/actor loses looks, sense of humour and all acting skills. Meets young girl who never had any acting skills in the beginning. She is a zany, wacky girl who comes to water his plants. They write a song. Why? Who knows? Who cares? It’s time to walk out of this nightmare. Don’t be fooled; the opening sequence is hilarious. Then it plummets to the lowest depths of movie making….the end
Acting: excruciating…No wonder Jemima sacked Hugh.
Photography: shocking
Design: awful
Wardrobe: tragic
Salon de Beaute: non existent
Botox: swallow it
Waterproof Mascara: Apply lashings; You will cry. You have wasted $10
Bloodnguts: It’s just gut wrenchingly horrible
Mind drifted to shopping: just before I walked out
Smokin’ smooches: the spark between Hugh and Drew was as sexy as the Pope (the dead one)
Car chases: It’s just me speeding away fleeing the cinema
Rename It: Dead Man walking
Best Worst Reviews: “ An underwhelming confection so conceptually lazy it’s a miracle the film has enough strength to make it through the projector” Boxoffice Magazine
“It says a lot about the film that the most positive things I can find to write are that Grant has a couple of decent lines and Barrymore has nice skin” The Times [UK]
“ Paper dolls have more depth” .Newark Star-Ledger
“ The leads show all the sexual understanding of strapping two cats together, throwing them in a tumble dryer, and expecting them to mate. When they kiss, it has all the romantic impact of watching Wildlife on One” .thelondonpaper
“Grant and Barrymore just don’t have the depth or chemistry to make you care. In short: flat like Milli Vanilli” BBC
“ If music be the food of love, Music and Lyrics is a recipe for indigestion” .Channel 4 Film
See it or donate to the Prada Bag fund? After walking out mid way through the film I raced home to bury my head in the exquisite beauty of my new Prada bag and inhale the smell of luxurious quality …

French Connection:
Head here quick smart! They have a great collection just arrived in store and they never seem to last on the floor for long. It’s the cheap but chic destination of the week. Best buys include the dark navy or is it black tunic top or a mini dress $99 in a silk with pockets and a rib trim. The tunic is one must have piece and hot! Hot! Hot! This little tunic is very similar to the one we saw on Sienna Miller last year. She looked great wearing a navy s/s round neck tunic top with black leggings, flat T bar sandles, a chunky gold chain and aviators. It’s still a great look. But don’t worry if your knees are begging to be left hidden. There is a reason for that. Throw on some leggings and you can do the Tunic look. So what else to buy here? Grab the must have sheer navy blouse with patch pockets over the boobs it’s great $199; the Marni style Monet print trapeze cotton dress in blues and greys, $89; also I see it in a hot pink/orange/red print. Buy the ribbed cardigan in cream with a belt and long line $89 and a grey marle long A line dress which wraps and ties with batwing sleeves $89. It’s a bit short too so bring out the leggings. The hibiscus dark blue print tunicdress in a flimsy cotton is great $129 and so is the bomber jacket in a military style $159. Cool. The candy pink and white print poets shirts with drawstring neck is groovy $79 and so is long grey cardigan coat. It’s to the knee, very fitted, double breasted and awfully chic $139. Mollini: .
Best buys are the patent round toe pumps with a mini platform in a faux snakeskin in a green or black $139; the black patent sling back pointy toes heels $138 ; the Chloe esque round toe black patents with a wooden wedge and an ankle strap $139. There are cute satin flats a la Chloe with jewel toes for about $139 and I see a lot of short bootie shoes…Be careful they are for the young and skinny. The black patent peep toes with a very YSL style chunky heel are groovy too $128.
Cue:
Love the skinny trouser suit here and the dresses are great. Go for the very 60’s strict silhouette and the simplicity of a simple black dress. It’s all about the strong shapes and there are 2 great dresses here; One is a simple, almost A line, knee length, long sleeve, jersey dress with round neck $199 and the other is s/s black empire with a big black button at the cleavage $159. The coat dress is a hot shape for the season and I like the one in black with buttons down the front and a belt $299. Also check out the cute poets blouse with a slit neckline in lots of soft very pretty colours about $99; the cotton pussy bow shirts $99 and the grey classic trousers with a higher waist $189. Buy up all the knits here ; They are great quality, and perfect for transeasonsal dressing from $89.
Esprit:
Not a lot here this week. I spy a few trench coats that are just mid thigh for about $119; a leather jacket for about $600 which is far too expensive. The T shirts are always good here and I do like the denim shoestring dress with a belt and cute pleats on the bodice $129 ish. Also buy the long grey hoodie almost a skirt $89. Portmans: .
The accessories are the best buys here. Love the long black jet beads to layer up over a classic white shirt; the cute tweed cap $29; the thin patent belts $29 and the bracelets. The skinny dark denim jeans look good for about $89. Also check out the 60’s Monastic trapeze mini dress in black with a scoop neck and wide sleeves $129.
Nine West:
Nine West has joined up with London designer Sophia Kokosalaki and will be presenting an 11 piece luxury collection available exclusively to Nine West Pitt Street, Sydney and Nine West Collins Street, Melbourne on April 12th 2007 both in store and online for six weeks only. Will keep you posted when it arrives in store. In the mean time buy the cute very Chloe round toe loafers with the big buckle but go for the metallic cream $129; the cute short black booties $229; the very Helmut Lang style black T bar ankle strap heels $149 and I love the flat boots with a round toe and a cuff. Be a swashbuckling Pirate of the Caribbean. Maybe not. Wear them if you have great legs with a mini or otherwise they will great with a simple skirt. In a choc brown or black they look expensive $389. Also in suede. Then buy the red suede strap sandals and a platform $129; the black or grey suede round toes with a patent wedge $139 and the square toe very 60’s slingbacks with a big brass buckle a la Roger Vivier $139. For those of you who can’t do the seriously high heels the heel is not too high on this shoe you will be pleased to know. In fact it’s a great shoe to wear to the office and to wear right now. .
Witchery:
Love the parkas here as mentioned in the item du jour; the classic side pocket chinos/cotton trousers in grey $109; the spunky red dress in satin that’s sleeveless Lanvin style and fitted through with a belt $199; the dark denim skinny jeans look great $129 although I must try them on so see if they are a good. The crop trapeze jacket, very 50’s Balenciaga style is here in black or grey $189. Also the T shirts here are great if you need a few empire T shirts to get you through till the end of summer..

Business Class.
Empire Homewares Double Bay: Check out their very good copies of designer bags: a Chloe Betty bag in black for about $349 and the Jimmy Choo Ramona in brown for about the same price. Bless. .
Jigsaw:
Best buys here are the knits. Rib knits are always so much more flattering because they give you a shape without sitting flat on all that fat on the muffin top. I refer to myself of course. Go for the navy ruffle edge cardigan shrug $169; the V neck rib sweater in lots of pretty colors from blue to green to grey $189 and the wide neck rib long sleeve sweater $189. There is a groovy poncho style sweater too $199 in a grey cable too..
Max and Co:
Chic, classic, great quality with fantastic prices. What more so you want? Hop in here on your platform wedges quickly for the winter buys. This season they have bought more styles but not a lot available in each size. Best buys are the coats of course. The black wool double breasted peacoat is great; it sits just over the bottom - we like a bit of cover up in that department - but its very fitted through the waist $450. Also in a grey which is a nice contract to all the basic black you already own. Also there is a shorter version if you so desire as well. There is a belted wool melton DB coat with epaulettes $750 ; a short sleeve satin black blouse with side tie $195; a short fur chubby $620 in black and a black cashmere zip front knit $450. There is a gorgeous grey chunky knit high neck sweater $230; a purple satin blouse $450 and a beautiful oatmeal jacket that’s belted , very 50’s couture $$ and a chic cream poloneck $195. The grey knit hoodie is chic $290 with spots in the hood and I like the black patent round toe heels with a satin ankle ribbon $375. .
Country Road:
What are the best buys apart from the short anorak? Go for the stone trench as reported (just about each week!) or the delicious black DB trench about $399; the grey short duffle coat $199; and the fine knit red poloneck sweater with a cute fluted short sleeves. The accessories are great: You want the beanies to wear when you head to the shows in Paris next week; or maybe you could just donate one to those less fortunate than us: Britney. She will need a lot of beanies for the next couple months. Also buy up on the scarves and the cute black patent wedges. Then grab the necklaces; all so Miu Miu I love them. Buy the black horn disc necklace on a black grosgrain ribbon and the black satin large chain necklace. Chic de la chic non?.
David Lawrence:
Things are looking a little groovier here this season: Best pieces are the black wool cape with slits, very inspector Morse (wear it when hunting out fashion finds and the mystery to why watermelon and pointy heels are still haunting me) $299 ; an opera coat, very 50’s in a blush pink crinkle satin with a wide neckline and single breasted $299; a single breasted trench in black or stone is here again $299 and also buy the grey crushed cotton military jacket a la Marc Jacobs with a snazzy drawstring waist and patch pockets $199. Also check out the soft blue slouch bags in a delicious leather $199. .
Carla Zampatti.
Love the black velvet cape with a ruffle front and a black ribbon tie $599 and the silver/black crop 50’s jacket with wide cuffs for about $599 and of course the copy of the Lanvin ( yes it s a dead ringer there is no denying) black trapeze tiered short dress with a round neck $549. Flaked salmon with Tamarind dressing and Asian herbs

Flaked salmon with Tamarind dressing and Asian herbs…a variation from Bills
How many different ways are there to cook Salmon? Never enough. This is easy, healthy, delicious and perfect for a week day dinner sitting on the balcony with a summer breeze and a cool wine or two…

You need for 4
2 or 3 salmon fillets
1 tbsp olive oil
2 bunches of mixed greens or just rocket
2 cucumbers thinly sliced
1 cup coriander leaves
1 cup fresh mint
Sea salt
black pepper

Tamarind dressing
1 tsp vegetable oil
1 tabs finely grated ginger
60ml (¼ cup) light soy sauce
115g ( 1/2 cup) brown sugar
1 tbsp fish sauce
2 tsp tamarind pulp

•Cook the salmon fillets any way you like: I prefer to bake it ( no oil needed: just whack in the oven)
•When the salmon is cooked , then let it cool a little while you…
•Pour a wine•Now make the tamarind dressing,,,
•Grate the ginger ( it’s so much easier than chopping)
•Then heat the vegetable oil in a small saucepan
•Toss in the ginger and stir it for a minute or two
•Think it’s time for another drink
•Add the soy and brown sugar to the ginger oil and watch as the sugar dissolves. No calories in this amount of sugar surely?
•Add the fish sauce and tamarind and stir it until it’s as dark and syrupy and brown as George Hamilton. Actually not that brown.
•Let it cool while you snazzy up the salad
•Grab a vegetable peeler and peel the cucumber into thin strips. Think Britney shaving her head and you’ve got the look.
•Pick off the coriander and mint leaves.
•Think about what to wear to the Oscars.
•Mix all the greens together: the cucumber, rocket, mint and coriander. How pretty! It looks just like the new Prada winter collection. All greens ands textures and so slimming.
•Now scatter it all on a chic white platter
•Is it time to flake the salmon over it? Yes, watch the manicure and toss is nonchalantly over the salad.
•Drizzle over the tamarind dressing
•Serve it with a rice or potatoes if the men are getting hungry.
•Fabulous and healthy …which means you are allowed another glass of wine and chocolate.
