Portmans Fabric Flower Clip or Fascinator

What’s the story with going to the races? You wear black, chic and minimal Balenciaga all year and suddenly you are off to the track. You have to do Pretty. Colourful. And (gasp) floral. It gets worse. You have to wear a hat. The solution? Buy a cute black floppy 70’s hat from Country Road or Portmans then grab a fabulous fabric flower brooch clip from Portmans for $14. Just arrived in store yesterday in black or deep red these pretty little flowers are so clever; they have a clip and a pin so you can wear them as a fascinator or just pinned to a hat. Now you can head to the races knowing you look fabulous. How good you’ve been! How much money you’ve saved! Which means on Monday you can race into Prada and buy that divine bag you’ve been drooling over.

Karl Lagerfeld: Room Service

I’ve got one word to say to you: Karl Lagerfeld. (OK. 2 words). Kaiser Karl is hot. His latest collection at Chanel got rave reviews and his new album Karl Lagerfeld: Les Musiques Que J’aime - My favorite songs -is the item of the week on Style.com. A compilation from his 70 iPods and 60,000 CD collection the two disc set is divided into an “at home” mix and an eclectic selection of “fashion show” tracks’. Now you must have Karl Lagerfeld: Room Service. He conceived Room Service as a multi-track matrix: a series of photos, a short film and an unusual version of the song ‘Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend,’ by singer/songwriter Devendra Banhart all collected in one deluxe volume. The project began when Lagerfeld was commissioned to create a campaign for Dom Perignon. The storyline he created was an ultra-contemporary fairy tale that recounted an irresistible attraction between two solitary and seductive hedonists whose paths cross at one of Paris’ finest hotels–the woman played by Eva Herzigova, and the man by Brad Kroenig. Lagerfeld shot photographs of the stranger-couple’s erotic encounter, and Johan Renck shot the film, all in the luxurious George V hotel. This deluxe volume features tritone printing, an exclusive vinyl single of Banhart’s performance and a DVD of Renck’s film.’ Not bad for a guy who must be pushing at least 75 years of age. One word? Cool.

ModelCo Erase Those Fine Lines

Here’s the nightmare. You clean the mirror. You get new glasses. You gaze into the mirror in sunlight. An old lady appears. You think the house is haunted. You get angry. You see she is wearing your favourite Chanel blouse. Then you scream and so does she. Then you recognize the face. Ewww. Time to apply the fabulous new product from ModelCo Erase Those Fine Lines. What a great name. What a great little skincare serum. Apparently it is full of lots of fabulous ingredients that work wonders to erase those fine lines. I love the sexy little measured dose applicator that looks a wand. A magic wand which contains the exact dosage to target both eyes. You can apply it directly after any nightmare episode and you will see and feel those fine lines disappear. Otherwise dirty up the mirror and take off your glasses and wait for ERASE THOSE HUGE LINES to be released.

$65 Erase Those Fine Lines.

The Inheritance of Loss:

The Inheritance of Loss: A Novel by Kiran Desai
Winner of the Man Booker Prize. A must read “This stunning second novel from Desai is set inmid-1980s India. Jemubhai Popatlal, a retired Cambridge-educated judge, liveswith his orphaned granddaughter , Sai, and his cook. The makeshift family’sneighbors include a coterie of Anglophiles unaware of how fragile their ownsocial standing is —at least until a surge of unrest disturbs the region.Besides threatening their very lives, the revolution also stymies the fledglingromance between 16-year-old Sai and her Nepalese tutor, Gyan. The cook’s son,Biju, meanwhile, lives miserably as an illegal alien in New York. In thisalternately comical and contemplative novel, Desai deftly shuttles betweenfirst and third worlds, illuminating the pain of exile, the ambiguities ofpost-colonialism and the blinding desire for a “better life,” whenone person’s wealth means another’s poverty.

A Prairie Home Companion  …directed by Robert Altman
Genre: Comic backstagefable
Who:
Meryl Streep, LilyTomlin, Londsay Lohan, Kevin Kline, Woody Harrelson, John C. Reilly VirginiaMadsen and Tommy Lee Jones
The Plot:
A PRAIRIE HOMECOMPANION is a fictitious radio variety show. Meryl Steep and Lily Tomlinappear as singing sisters. They sing alot. Grumpy Lohan is Meryl’s daughter. She writes songs about suicide. Kevin Kline appears straight out of a 1940’sfilm Noir crime movie and falls over everything. Virginia Madsen appears as anangel. More Singers sing. Another act appears and sings. More singing. Lotsmore singing. There are dirty jokes, rousing tunes, and more singing. Someone dies. The show is closed down. The end
Acting: Fantastic. Kevin Kline is hilarious. Meryl Streepis amazing. Is that really her singing? Is that really the same person fromlast week and not wearing Prada?
Photography:
Shotentirely in the Fitzgerald, except for the opening and closing scenes whichtake place in a nearby diner, the picture combines Altman’s cinematic style andintelligence and love of improvisation and Keillor’s songs and storytelling tocreate a fictional counterpart to the "A Prairie Home Companion"radio show. The film uses the musicians and crew and stage setting of theactual radio show, heard on public radio stations coast to coast for the pastquarter-century (and which, in real life, continues to broadcast)’rottentomatoes.com
Wardrobe:
The Angel looks perfect in a white trenchcoat. Meryl looks just right and appropriately tacky in frou frou westernoufits and Lindsay Lohan is unrecognizable with glasses and a baggy T shirt (an no Birkin bag? What?)
Salon de Beaute: The hair department should  be shot . The hair extentions poking out atthe back of Lohan’s head should never have been seen and come and go in and outof shot.
Botox: I hate to say it but I think Meryl has had it.You need it for the laugh lines.
Waterproof mascara: It’s not sad just funny and kooky. Oneapplication will be just fine
Smokin’ smooches.
No. Sorry.
Car chases:
There are no cars. It’s all shoton stage.
Movie Mistake #1
WhenJohn C. Reilly is in the dressing room telling the airplane story, the timechanges back and forth on the clock behind him. More Mistakes atMovieMistakes.com
Blood’n’guts:
No blood, no guts. Just an Angel. Bless
Rename it: Why rename such a kooky film?
Best Review: “
Whilelacking a conventional plot arc, PHC nevertheless is totally engaging, crammed with laughable, lovable vignettes and characters with whom we’re morethan happy to spend some time.” KansasCity Star
Best Worst Review: “This is not one of the good Altmans. This isn’t even one of the mediocreAltmans. No, the cinema’s girl with the curl is back, and this time he’s very, very bad.” San Francisco Chronicle
