Balenciaga

One word sums up the item du jour this week: Balenciaga. Anything Balenciaga is hot but the latest collection just seen in Paris is all you want. WWD writes “If the fashion futurism we’ve seen so far this season has been of the back-to-the-future Mod variety, on Tuesday morning Nicolas Ghesquière took it in a whole new direction at Balenciaga. With his soundtrack invoking the theme — “The robots are coming.”"When?” — he went lean, mean, metaled up and light years away from the structured pouffery of the fall collection that so impressed some of his colleagues in Milan. Anyone looking for an alternative to pretty, your quest is over. Ghesquière’s vision is a dark one, populated by aggressive warrior-bots in various sliver-thin layerings of black worn with weighty chain platform shoes and often, brassy ergonomic leg armor. There were men’s wear wools, waxed leathers, croc, bits of sheer, what looked like gun belts and some major plastic work delivered in new renditions of the designer’s signature skinny rock ‘n’ roll silhouette, altered significantly for that otherworldly vibe.” Go to Style.com for more.

Savoury Tart

Savoury Tart …from Simone Logue

This is a brilliant recipe and really one of the best waysto kill anyone: full of cream, eggs, butter, cheese, cream cheese and anythingdelicious. I have renamed it Cholesterol tart

For 40 models or 10 men without heart problems
You need for the Pastry. You will make pastry. You will.

85gbutter
85gcream cheese
1 cup flour
½ cup polenta
a little bit of preserved lemon mashed up

Filling
2 leeks sliced
1 tabs butter unsalted
1 tabs sugar
100g oven roasted tomatoes
100g Fetta
3 cloves of oven roasted garlic
freshthyme

For egg mix
10 x eggs ( 10; not a typo)
400 ml thickened cream
100g fresh grated parmesan cheese
sel et poivre

q Preheat oven to 150

q Blend butter, cream cheese, flour polenta and a dash ofpreserved lemon in a whizzer until it forms a paste or a pastry clump.

q Roll the pastry out. Watch the manicure.

q Moisturize a spring form tart tin

q Press the pastry into tart tin so it looks fabulous

q Cut up the leeks. Don’t cry

q Roast the garlic till soft and gooey

q Roast the tomatoes in olive oil, garlic, thyme andbasil and a dash of balsamic

q Heat up butter and sugar and gently cook the leeks tillthey are soft and caramelized and outrageously delicious.

q When the tomatoes, garlic and leeks are cooked let themcool then ..

q Arrange them on the bottom of the pastry shell with thecrumbled fetta and a few sprigs of thyme. But wait! Keep some tomatoes, Fetta andthyme for accessorizing at the end

q Now mix the cream, eggs, parmesan, salt and pepper andpour over and into the pastry shell

q Top it the remaining Fetta thyme and tomatoes for a bitof a snazzy look on the top

q Bake in the 150 oven for about 1 to 11/2 hours untilthe top is firm to touch but wobbles a little like your thighs or upper arms (depending how old you are)

Serve with a light white wine and an adorable green saladand the phone nearby for all any calls for 000

The Devil Wears Prada….directed by director David Frankel
Genre: Comedy chick flick
Who: Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Simon Baker,Stanley Tucci. Giselle.
The Plot: Girl writes a shockingly badly written andexcruciatingly boring, bitchy book about Anna Wintour which for some reason ismade into a move. It bares little resemblance to anything at Vogue. Exceptthere are a lot of clothes and shoes. In the film daggy girl who has no fashionsense is employed at a fashion magazine (Why you would employ anyone who is notinterested in your product to work for you I just don’t know). The boss is abitch. Who has the worst wardrobe I have ever seen. On anyone. Ever.  Girl puts up with bitches at the office.Shehas a poor boyfriend. She goes to Paris. Meets Valentino. Wears some Chanel.Leaves boyfriend. Leaves the job. Goes back to Boyfriend. The end. Thank God.

Acting: Meryl Streep is fabulous. The end.

Photography:
Not worth mentioning.
Set design:
The magazine editor’s office looks likea freedom catalogue. So wrong So cheap. Like her wardrobe.
Wardrobe: Absolutely shocking. What fashion editor would wear those hideous hoop earrings, those trashysunglasses; those awful coats, sheer black hosiery ( ewww) and those tackyshoes? How could they get it so wrong, wrong, wrong?
Salon de Beaute:
Tacky cheapwhite hair on Meryl streep in a daggy cut. Anna Hathaway has great simple hair, the only thing with any style. The fashion assistants have blue tacky eye shadow and green nails. I ask you. Please explain.
Botox:
Triple dose to get overthis crap and sexist movie.
Waterproof mascara:
triplethe application to get through crying over the shocking wardrobe, the wetfashion jokes and laughable fashion shoots.

Car chases: I wish.

Blood’n’guts:
You want to kill the wardrobedepartment and the script writers for this drivel of a teen movie with no witor story.
Rename it:
The Devil wears thin.
Best Review:
If The Devil Wears Prada didn’t have the silentlymenacing Meryl Streep as its title character, the film would be sporting nubsand carrying a broom instead of full-blown horns and a pitch fork.”  Hollywood.com
Best Worst review: “ flat comedy that pretends to cluckits tongue at gloss and glitz and the surface tension of lives attuned only toappearances, then spends most of its time drooling over them.” San DiegoUnion-Tribune
“Wearing an ill-fitting top of insincerity matched withclunky, hypocritical heels, ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ is in dire need of amakeover. Sun Publications Chicago
See it or donate to the Prada Bag fund? The Prada bag! Willanyone ever write a movie where a successful chic woman can have a career, befabulous at her job and
be happy and not a bitter and twisted unhappyold chook? Will anyone write a movie that shows the fashion industry in a chicway? Will anyone write a movie about fashion that is full of interesting peoplewho love what they do? Will anyone? Yes. Me. I will write that movie. Soon.Very soon.
