Schwartzkopf Silhouette Gloss Crème

The great thing about fashion week, apart from waiting in line for hours, sitting in overheated tents and pushing and shoving people out of your front row seat, is the fabulous goodie bags. Bribery and corruption rocks! Which is why I found myself trying the Schwartzkopf Silhouette gloss crème for hair. They say it’s all about getting intensive shine and gentle control. I say it’s true; my hair was glossy and shiny and it’s great for flyaways but whoa! Don’t use a lot because it’s really strong.

$16 Schwartzkopf Silhouette Gloss Crème from Salons or Price Attack 1800 022 219.

Nasty: My Family and Other Glamorous Varmints by Simon Doonan
“Nastiness is rich. Nastiness is fun.” Doonan is the creative director of Barney’s New York, and is the boyfriend of the famous groovy ceramicist Jonathon Adler. ‘Raised in the working class 60’s England, he craved glamour and excitement. What he had instead were two cheeky parents: the fabulous Betty, who sported peroxide-yellow hair and spike heels; and Terry, who embraced amateur wine-making with near-religious fervor. After all, in an “extended family of assorted lodgers and mentally ill relatives,” alcohol helped. So he and his drag performer friend Biddie headed to London in search of the Beautiful People. Armed with a relentless joie de vivre, Doonan takes readers on a breezy joyride through his life, focusing less on his career trajectory than on his kooky formative years.’ Hilarious !

Lemon risotto with flaked salmon and asparagus

Lemon risotto with flaked salmon and asparagus
This is so tangy and delicious. It’s all about making the risotto without parmesan, with lots of lemon and then flaking the salmon and the asparagus over the top …

For 8 to 10
You need 6 to 8 salmon fillets
Fish or chicken stock about 6 cups or more (or add wine)
One whole preserved lemon rinsed (too salty otherwise) and finely chopped
3 cups of Arborio rice
2 lemons zested for the risotto
1 lemon for accessorizing at the end
lemon juice of all the lemons
½ cup of ricotta
2 tabs of verjuice
½ bottle of white wine for cooking
½ bottle white wine for drinking
½ bunch of fresh lemon thyme
A couple of basil leaves
A handful of chopped parsley
2 bunches of asparagus
Salt and pepper

·Put the salmon fillets skin side up on a baking tray, with no added oil or anything else and whack in a hot oven. It will be cooked with the skin can be peeled off easily.
·After about 10 minutes, bring it out and cover with foil and let it cool a bit. You are going to flake it with your fingers just before you serve it with the risotto.
·I am not going to tell you how to cook risotto, you’ve got enough cook books to find that out
·BUT here’s the scoop on how to get a fabulous lemon flavour:
·When you are cooking the rice, add the chopped preserved lemon. Hint: mush up the lemon so it’s all in a paste and dissolves into the risotto
·Zest the lemons and squeeze them and add to the risotto as you cook it
·Add the verjuice, the wine, the ricotta and the most of the lemon thyme as you go along stirring and cooking the risotto
·When the risotto is ready, and cooked al dente, steam the asparagus just so it’s still crunchy,
·Then toss the risotto on a platter, zest more lemon and juice over the top, add the asparagus and flake the salmon over it.
·Sprinkle with lemon thyme and the other herbs and lots of salt and pepper.
·Perfect for an autumn evening…

Criminal
The Plot: An amusing film about a middle-aged, small time con man in LA who takes on a younger spunkier Mexican partner and hwhat happens when they stumble on a foolproof, and extremely lucrative, scam. Made in 30 days it’s a remake of the 2002 Argentinean film NINE QUEENS.
Who: John C Reilly (”Chicago”), spunky Diego Luna (”Y Tu Mama Tambien”), and Maggie Gyllenhaal
Acting: excellent
Interiors: what’s there to look at? They’re criminals in LA
Arty angles: sadly no, it’s LA. they’re criminals.
Designer inspiration: Maggie wears the same outfit twice! (fashion crime)
Salon de Beaute: none, they’re criminals (fashion victims?)
Blood’n’ guts: No blood but a few punchups (they’re criminals…)
Car chases: I don’t remember but probably yes (ditto)
Smooches: one tiny one
Smokin’ smooches: no, no, no
When Harry met Sally romance Richter scale: nil rating
Botox to combat laugh lines: Need it to combat the furrowed brow when you are working out what the final twist will be…it’s excruciatingly tricky trying to pick out who is swindling who.
See it or donate to the Prada bag fund? A perfect date movie. He pays, you get to donate to the Prada bag fund: a win win!
